In Finnish, SUMU means fog, and it is something you encounter often in the archipelago and across the Baltic Sea.
We like the name because, just like fog, the sea and shipping can be unpredictable. You can’t always see far ahead, but you still need to keep your course and stay calm. Arriving safely is what we always do.
Some sailors joke that fog is just nature’s way of reminding us to sometimes slow down and have more coffee, and we think that’s not a bad philosophy for business either.
SUMU Logistics was founded with a clear purpose
To provide smart, reliable and sustainable maritime solutions for a changing world. Based in Finland, we combine deep knowledge of Northern European waters with an international outlook, servering clients across shipping and offshore wind.
The sea has always been a place of safety, adventure, and inspiration for us. We want to cherish and protect it for future generations by reducing environmental impact through responsible practices. With decades of international shipping experience and a strong maritime passion, we aim to strengthen Finland’s maritime cluster and together with our customers, create opportunities that reach far into the future.
Today, our focus is on offshore logistics support for vessels operating at sea, on outer anchorages, or waiting to enter port for cargo operations. To minimize waiting times in port, we provide solutions such as efficient crew transfers by water taxis and the delivery of spare parts and provisions to vessels at anchor. We also offer independent shipbroking and chartering services through SUMU Chartering.
Looking ahead, SUMU Logistics is committed to building the logistics chain for offshore wind power, focusing on personnel and small cargo transportation. While large-scale projects are still ahead, we believe in taking the first steps now to stay at the forefront of development.
